It seems like Samsung’s 3D Blu-ray players are not the only ones coming in cheaper version, as it is released the new 680 Series and 490 Series plasma HDTVs. The two of them were shown off in Korea yesterday, even though the US website only features a product page for the 50-inch PN50C680 at this time, showing off its 1080p and access for DLNA. You will be presented a few features from higher end plasmas, which add, widgets, picture-in-picture, more contrast ratio and it has slimmer designs. On the other hand the PN50C490′s situation is a bit murkier, but some source reports it will be the first 720p 3DTV of the current generation. With another series 4 plasmas retailing set about $720, and it could be the first 3D set to reach the $1000 barrier.
Update news: PN50C490 is listing on ABC Warehouse shows a few specs plus $1,099 MSRP, but for preorder its just $989. Its perfect for some PS3 gaming or ESPN3D show. As some related news that you can get a 60-inch 1080p projection 3D capable HDTV from Mitsubishi for even less.
